Hickory's run to the top this past weekend started with the first event to go final on Friday morning. Brian Phillips rose to the top of the podium in the AA long jump, starting things off well for a motivated Hornets group that took home its second title in three years. Phillips jumped 23-0 to win a close LJ and it started the meet off on the right foot.

Later in the day on Friday, Brock Grundy repeated as the state champ in the discus with a throw of 183-2, earning Hickory's second win of the weekend. Going into Saturday, Hickory already 20 points in the bag. Grundy followed up his Friday win with another throws victory, a key shot put title with a dramatic final throw of 60-9.5. Phillips added a fifth place finish in the triple jump, while Braedon Allen was eighth in the 110 meter hurdles and the Hornets' 4x100 meter relay took fourth, supplying points that proved to be pivotal to putting Hickory over the top.

In addition to Hickory's team title this year, the boys won in 2017 and were second in 2014. The girls' squad, meanwhile, won PIAA Class AA team titles in 2012, 2015, and 2016 and were second in 2011 and 2017. Hickory continues to be one of the most consistent programs on both the boys and girls sides, year in and year out in PA.

Brookville Area, with a wealth of sprint depth, took a close second with 34 points, 6 off Hickory's winning 40. Ian Thrush scored big points in the sprints, while Dillon Olson medaled in both hurdle races. The Brookville 4x100 was a very close second place.
