Girls' Long Jump Preview
In each of the past three PTFCA state indoor meets, it has taken a leap past the 19-foot mark to win a watch in the girls' long jump.
This year's field of 20 has talent and experience that could produce another 19-foot winner.
Injuries kept North Allegheny's Casey Burton from competing in last year's indoor meet and greatly limited her outdoor season as well. However, the Princeton signee has been hitting on all cylinders thus far this season, leading PA with a 19-4.5 jump that is less than 2 inches off her PR and currently US#8. She is a leading qualifier in the 60-meter dash and also will compete in the 200.
Burton hit her 19-footer and indoor PR just after Valentine's Day, while Gabriella Recce of Central Dauphin got her PR and US#10 mark of 19-3.75 in her season opener almost three weeks before Christmas. Recce knows her way around a field event runway, in State College or elsewhere. She is ranked 11th nationally in the pole vault this season and was sixth in last year's LJ indoor final at PSU.
Others who have experience in this meet and big jumps in 2020 include St. Basil Academy's Tia Taylor, who was third in 2019, Cheltenham's Brianna Smith (5th in 2019) and Penn Cambria's Lyric Janosik (10th in 2019).
