Individuals Breakdown

Look for a good race for the D1-A individual title this season. The reigning champion is Lydia Brown of Calvary Christian, who went 20:02 to take the title last season. But she'll be challenged by Jenkintown's Olivia Spoerl.

After winning the district title last year, Brown took 45th at states. Spoerl, meanwhile, had her best race of the season at states. She was second to Brown at districts and then ran 20:24 (her 5K best) at Hershey to take 19th in the state in Class A. She'll look to ride that momentum into this season, but Brown should be right there, too. Those two will be the ones to watch in D1-A this season.

Others to watch in D1-A include the Dock Mennonite trio of Sara Kennel, Celeste Derstine and Sydney Putera, Calvary Christian's Leah Angstadt, and Delco Christian's Ellen Hines. New Hope-Solebury's Emily Greenup was 15th in D1-AA last year, and she'll move to A for this season, and we can expect her to be in the mix for a top five finish as well.

Team Preview

Dock Mennonite Academy will be the team to beat as it pursues another team district title this season. Dock ran away with the title and with it, the lone state qualifying spot last season, scoring 33 points. The team's top five girls have returned this season, and six of the their seven varsity girls from last year, so they will be in the driver's seat again.

Jenkintown, second last year, loses a few seniors from last year's team to graduation, but brings back a good core, led by Spoerl up front. The Drakes will look to add some pieces to give Dock a run for its money this fall. Calvary Christian Academy should also be in the mix with five varsity girls back from a year ago.
