AAA Girls 4x400m Relay Preview
The Central Bucks West girls will be looking to close out the state meet on a high note. West is among the team title favorites, and the squad will be aiming for the 4x400 meter relay title to take home more points. They are shooting for their second straight AAA 4x400 meter relay state title, after they claimed the win in 2019.
Despite losing a year, West is strong once again. They are owners of the state's fastest time this spring at 3:54.27, which they ran to take the District 1 title.
But they will have company up front. In a great battle at District 3, Cumberland Valley, with a good group of quarter milers, clocked an impressive 3:56.90 for the win. They edged out J.P. McCaskey for that win, with McCaskey taking second in 3:57.52. Both teams will look to run down CB West in what should be a great finale on Saturday afternoon.
South Fayette went 3:57.80 to win the WPIAL title last week. The Lions, too, have a great group of sprinters that will make them a factor in this race. Like West, South Fayette will be in pursuit of crucial team points to close out the meet.
The other District 1 squads after CB West will also be factors for high finishes. Pennridge, North Penn, Haverford Township, and Central Bucks South all ran fast times at the District 1 championships. Pennridge and North Penn have seen quite a bit of CB West the past few weeks and both have clocked fast times along the way. Four of those five went sub-4 minutes with CB South just missing the barrier with a 4:00.52. District 6 champions Altoona Area and District 7 runners-up West Allegheny are also right at 4:00, looking to dip under that threshold.
We'll see who has the most left in the tank at the end of a long day at Ship.
