AAA Boys 4x100m Relay Preview
The Red Lion boys made a big statement on Saturday, dropping the season's first sub-42 second time in the 4x100 meter relay and asserting themselves as the team to beat at Shippensburg. This Red Lion squad has some terrific sprint depth that has been on display all season long and the relay popped a 41.78 to win the District 3 title.
Of course, though, anything can happen in the 4x1. There are plenty of talented squads that will be right there to make it close. As always, handoffs will be the deciding factor.
State College Area ran to a quick PA No. 2 42.19 to win the District 6 title. The Little Lions will be in pursuit of team points, and this relay has a shot to take home the top spot in the 4x1. SC has been hitting its stride in the past few weeks in this relay and will look for another big time drop on Saturday.
Coatesville will be a serious factor as well. Two years ago, Coatesville blasted a state record 40.99 to take home the state title. The team has a different look in 2021, but it's the same solid program, and Coatesville will be tough to top in this relay with some of the best consistency in the event all season long.
Wilson Area has emerged as a top squad, going 42.40 to win the District 11 title. Don't sleep on this upstart 4x1. LaSalle College sits at PA No. 5 with a season best of 42.43, and the District 12 champs will be strong here, as well. The same goes for the WPIAL champions from Seneca Valley, which ran 42.56 for the district crown last week.
Norristown, Downingtown West, Canon McMillan, Avon Grove, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Palmyra, and Chambersburg are among the other teams in this field to watch out for. These will be timed finals, so don't be surprised to see some fast times coming out of any of the four heats.
