PIAA States Preview: Girls' Jumps

AA Girls Triple Jump Preview

The AA triple jump will come down to who brings their best on the right day. The top seed and top-ranked AA jumper is Devin Hubler of Minersville. The junior jumped 37-4-25 to win the District 11 title last week -- a good sign that she's peaking at the right time. She's also the only girl in the field with two 37+ marks to her name this spring.

Greenwood's Abigail Taylor will be in the mix, though. The senior is the only other girl besides Hubler to jump over 37 feet this fall, posting a best of 37-0.5. She has three other marks this year in the 36-foot range, so Taylor has shown some goof consistency in the event.

Speaking of consistency, Bermudian Springs' Allison Watts has leapt a best of 36-10.5 each of the two weeks, once to win the YAIAA title and again to win at District 3. Just a freshman, Watts will be one to watch for on Friday. Another freshman to keep an eye on is Bloomsburg's Charly Schlauch. She jumped 36-8.5 to win District 4 this past week, a big PR for the ninth grader.

North Schuylkill's Sarah Wagner will be in contention. She's the top seed in the long jump and is seeded fourth for the triple. Other medal contenders include WPIAL champ Nadia Lape of Mohawk, District 10 winner Grace Bresnan of Reynolds, District 1 champ Sasha Lee of Saint Basil, and WPIAL runner-up Olivia Cernuto of Southmoreland.
