PIAA States Preview: Boys' Jumps

AA Boys Triple Jump Preview

Similar to the AA long jump, the AA triple jump saw a big rankings shakeup during a busy districts week, where a number of boys put down season best performances to throw a wrench in things before the state meet.

Dante Elliot of Littlestown had a very successful District 3 meet, which saw the senior leap 45-3.5 to claim the win. That's the top AA mark of the season in the triple and a nice PR for Elliott. He's put himself in the conversation as perhaps the one to beat in this competition.

District 10 champion Jake Hogg of Youngsville will look to have something to say about that. He leapt a season best of 44-10.25 to win the district crown. That's the second best AA jump of the season and also a big PR for the senior. District 9 saw a good battle between Cranberry's Cameron Russell and Smethport's Ryli Burritt. Russell earned the district title with a leap of 44-8, while Burritt was a close second at 44-1. Expect both to be factors for the state title come Friday.

Loyalsock's Idris Ali and Northern Bedford's Mason Detterline both have season bests of 44-0. With a strong day, either boy could be looking at a spot high on the podium.

This should be a good competition as a number of these boys look to put down more season bests to try and claim the state crown.
