Individuals Breakdown

Mitchell Brett's three year run atop District 3 Class A will come to an end this fall with his graduation. So there will be a new district champion here. The race for the top spot looks like it could come down to Trinity's Jasper Burd and York Catholic's Moseley Driscoll. Burd was third at the district meet -- the top returner -- and then placed 38th at the state meet. Driscoll was fourth in the district and 26th at the state meet, a mere place off a state medal.

Both seniors, look for a good battle for the district title between Burd and Driscoll in District 3 Class A this year. Both will be contenders for state medals, as well.

Other top ten returners include Tulpehocken's David Bednarczyk, Trinity's Connor Pushart, Kutztown's Jack Kornfeind, and Tulpehocken's Jayden Manbeck. Bednarcyzk and Pushart are both returning individual state qualifiers.

Team Preview

Last year was supposed to be the first year of two state qualifying spots for D3-A, but with the pandemic, each district was limited to just one team spot across the board. That was bad news for Trinity, which placed second in the district, just four points off the top spot. Trinity loses it top runner from last year, Jack Warner, but returns five of its top seven. Led by Burd and Pushart and some good overall depth, Trinity looks to be the team to beat in D3-A this season.

Tulpehocken, fourth in the district last year, also returns five of seven from 2020. This is a young team, which was impressive last year and could very well be right in the mix for the district title, or at least a top two spot. Tulpy is a team to watch this year.

Last year's district champions York Catholic return its top runner from last year in Driscoll, but lose its 2-3-4 runners to graduation. It will have to be a season of big retooling if York Catholic wants to get a repeat or a return trip to Hershey. Kutztown Area loses Brett and a few other key seniors and will also need to retool a bit after a third place district finish in 2020.

Fairfield Area and Delone Catholic were fifth and sixth in the district last year, respectively. Both are interesing teams to keep an eye on with six of seven runners from last year's teams back. With some improvements, these teams could certainly compete for a top two spot.
