Watch CJ Singleton Drop A 9:02 3,200m

CJ Singleton put his name squarely on the map to start off his 2022 indoor season. The Butler senior ran to an impressive second place finish and clocked a new PA No. 2 and US No. 4 time of 9:02.23 in the 3,200 meters.

Singleton, a Notre Dame recruit, battled with West Virginia standout Larry Josh Edwards (University High) in one of the premiere events at Saturday's Youngstown State High School Meet #2 in Ohio.

Edwards and Singleton worked together for about the first half of the race, and then Edwards made his move to the lead and opened up a gap. He claimed the win in a new US No. 2 time of 8:55.69 (Connecticut's Gavin Sherry ran a US No. 1 time of 8:47.03 at the New Balance Games on the same day).

Singleton hung strong, though, to take second in 9:02.23. That's less than a second off Gary Martin's PA No. 1 in the 3,200m of 9:01.77 set last week at The VA Showcase. Martin's time was a split en route to a full two mile. Singleton's time is also a PA No. 4 all-time performance for 3,200 meters (Martin is at PA No. 3 all-time).

Watch the race above.
