Girls Long Jump Preview
The runway will be the place to be on Sunday morning for one of the meets most loaded events, the girls long jump. Four girls enter with season bests over 18 feet and this will be a can't-miss event.
The top seed is Avery Lewis of Friends' Central. The sophomore is the all-time PA state record holder with her best of 21-2.5 from last season. She hasn't hit that this year, coming in with a best of 19-2.75 from the Millrose Games. She's been consistently in that 19-foot range this season and will be the one to beat.
Providing the best challenge to Lewis will be State College Area's Shannon Mullin. She, too, has been incredibly consistent this season. She jumped a best of 18-9 to take second at the Millrose Games. She will need a big meet to go for that top spot, but Mullin has been on top of her game all winter long.
Sabrina Imes of Shipley School is another girl to watch in this field. She is fresh off a busy weekend that saw her win at the DVGTCA Meet of Champions and the PAISAA Championships. Her season best is 18-7.25 and that will make her a contender in this talented field. Coatesville's Lorelei Eberly has also jumped past 18 feet with a season best of 18-2.25, which was a big PR to take second to Imes at MOCs. Eberly will shoot for another big performance on Sunday.
New Castle's Maria Owens and West Chester Rustin's Ava Alexander are right on the cusp of the 18-foot mark this season. Owens' season best is at 17-10.75 and Alexander's is at 17-10.25. Expect both to be right in the mix in this competition. Altoona Area's Brooke Long has a best of 17-0 this season, but don't count her out. She won the AAA long jump state title in AAA last spring.
