Boys Shot Put Preview
Angelo Allen of Penn Hills leads the boys shot put field into Sunday. The senior was a state medalist outdoors last spring, taking eighth in AAA, and he's even better this winter. Allen put down a PA No. 1 mark of 58-7 at Youngstown State earlier this season. He tossed a 57-5 to win the TSTCA title this past week, and he'll be the top seed and the one to beat in the shot put.
But Perkiomen Valley's Ronde Washington will be looking to keep his momentum rolling into the state meet. The senior put down a PR of about four and a half feet at the TFCAofGP Meet of Champions to take the win. He was in the 50-51 foot range prior to that performance last week. If he can replicate a performance like that, he could certainly make a good run at the title.
Cumberland Valley's Wade Shomper has been consistently solid this season, tossing a best of 54-4.75 at Penn State earlier in this season. He put down marks over 53 feet in his two other appearances this winter. That should bode well for Shomper entering the weekend. Slippery Rock's Seaton Wozniak also has a best mark over 54 feet. He put down a best of 54-1.25, and has recently been easily over 51 feet over the last month. Hempfield Area's Peyton Murray will be a factor, as well, with a season best of 52-8.5.
Boyertown's Jayden Miller, Upper Dublin's Kyree Butler, Mid Valley's Josh Angelo, and Episcopal's Alphonso Koukou are the others in the field that have season bests over 51 feet. It will be a close battle to get on the medal podium here with a lot of closely ranked throwers.
