Girls 4x200m Relay Preview
South Fayette has proven to stand above the rest in the girls 4x200m relay, and the Lions will look to cap off what has been a dominant winter with a state title in the event. SF has run three of the state's fastest four times in the 4x2 this season, led by a 1:43.18 from the SPIRE Ohio Championship Preview Meet at the end of January.
That best time, which came on a 300m track, is over three seconds faster than the next best time in PA. South Fayette, which won the PIAA Class AAA 4x100m relay last winter, will be the favorites to follow up that title with a state championship indoors in the shortest sprint relay.
North Penn comes in at PA#2 and will be looking to take down the top seed. NP went 1:46.20 on a flat 200m track at the Bears Indoor Showcase a few weeks back and has been getting faster as the season's has progressed. Friends' Central, meanwhile, isn't a team to count out. FCS has some terrific depth all over the track, and has posted a flat track 1:46.86 way back in mid-December. Both squads will make a good run at the title.
West Chester Rustin (1:46.63), Cheltenham (1:46.86), Cumberland Valley (1:47.56), and Great Valley (1:47.58) have run fast banked track times this season, and will look to drop some time at Penn State. Rustin was a big breakthrough last week, running its fastest time at the Garden State Invite.
J.P. McCaskey (1:47.62), West Catholic (1:47.91), and Quakertown (1:48.36) have all posted quick flat 200m track times this season, and each will be looking for a nice time improvement on the banked track Sunday. Those three have some good under-the-radar potential in this field.
There's always plenty of unpredictability in the 4x200m relay with heat draws and handoffs playing such an important role. The race for those eight medals looks to be wide open.
