Girls 4x400m Relay Preview
Friends' Central wasted no time this season proving its quarter mile strength. The Phoenix dropped a flat track 3:55.68 all the way back on Dec. 10. That time still stands at PA#1 and US#11. Friends' Central will look to turn that into a state championship to close out the girls' races at the state meet on Sunday.
FCS is also among the team favorites, so the squad may be looking to sure up its position atop the team standings at the end of the meet.
Of course, the 4x400m relay is always ready to bring some drama. Plenty of teams will be looking to challenge the favorites. Penn Charter ran a quick 4:02.82 on a flat track, a time that sits at PA#2. The Quakers have some good speed and will be looking to go sub-4 on the banked track to make a run at the win.
The same goes for the very deep Cumberland Valley squad. CV has run between 4:03 and 4:04 three times this season on Penn State's track. Sub-4 is on the horizon and the Eagles will be shooting for a time like that to chase the victory.
DVGTCA Meet of Champions winners Ridley, MOC runners-up Upper Dublin, and J.P. McCaskey are teams that have run 4:07 on a flat track, and that should translate to a much faster time on the banked track at PSU. Haverford Township dropped a 4:06 at the Armory last week, and the Fords look to be in a good spot heading into Sunday. Central Bucks West, the reigning outdoor state champions in AAA, is a team you can't count out here.
The 4x4 is all about what teams have left in the tank at the end of a long and busy meet. There's plenty of opportunity for teams to move up and make a run at a big finish to close the meet out.
