Girls 4x800m Relay Preview
The first event of the day will bring some great early competition to the track in the girls 4x800m relay.
Penn Charter comes in at PA#1 after a 9:21.88 at the Millrose Games, where the Quakers placed second overall. State College Area was fifth in that field, running a PA#2 time of 9:30.66 for fifth. Those two squads look to be the two favorites heading into the meet. Both teams have a lot of half mile speed, and this should be a close one.
A host of teams have been hitting their stride at the right time, posting fast times within the last week heading into Sunday's meet. Penncrest ran strong to take the DVGTCA Meet of Champions title in 9:36.55, a sign that this team is in a good spot for another big time drop at the state meet. Penncrest out-dueled PA#4 Central Bucks East and PA#8 Pennsbury in that MOCs race. Both CB East and Pennsbury are a pair of teams that should compete for the top five.
Downingtown West dropped a 9:47.43 at the Garden State Invite to edge out West Chester Rustin by just .02. D-West moved all the way up to PA#5 and Rustin is now at PA#6. Both squads are riding some good momentum into the state meet and will have a good shot at high finishes.
Perkiomen Valley, Strath Haven, J.P. McCaskey, and Upper Dublin are all teams with season bests right in the same neighborhood. These squads will be looking for nice time drops on the big stage to get inside the medals and content for a top five finish.
A few teams may not be running fully 'A' squads, which should present an opportunity for other teams to get into medal contention. As always, the state meet is going to start off on a good foot with the 4x800.
