Hidden Gems are up-and-coming student-athletes who haven't garnered the attention they
deserve. We want to bring these gems to light. We will highlight a "Hidden Gem" in the
Pennsylvania XC/TF Scene each week.
Tommy Crum, a senior out of Boiling Springs, is this week's hidden gem.
With consistent progress and a 5k personal best of 16:56.06, Crum is shaping to be a solid
distance runner.
Crum improved from his 32nd place finish in the 2020 PIAA District 3 2A meet (17:39.80) by
over 35 seconds to take 12th place at the 2021 PIAA District 3 2A meet (17:04.20). This
performance qualified him for his first cross-country state championship.
Crum made an impressive fight against Pennsylvania's best 2A runners in his state
championship debut. He finished 30th place, just five spots out of a medal. Not to mention, he
completed the challenging Hershey Parkview course in a respectable 17:16:10.
Crum added two solid personal bests to his portfolio on the track in the 2022 Mid Penn
championship. In the 1600-meter run, he finished 4th in a competitive field, running a time of
4:23.80. Later that day, he followed his performance up with a 5th place finish in the 3200-
meter run, completing the race in 9:47.57.
Crum is gaining momentum with strong performances. This year is his senior season, and we
believe a breakthrough is on deck. Boiling Springs is expected to open at Invitational action at
the Carlisle Invitational next week.
