District 4 Class A Girls - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Kate Moncavage (Southern Columbia); Gracelyn Laudermilch (Northeast Bradford)

Contending Teams: Northeast Bradford, Wyalusing Valley, Troy, Canton

The Rundown:

The 2A girls race features a limited field, and there are truthfully only four teams contention. Northeast Bradford should have no problem securing the team victory. They'll likely place five in the top 10 with a 21-minute 1-5 average. The defending district champs, Wyalusing Valley, can contend with Northeast Bradford if things go their way. They have had a tighter compression than Northeast Bradford throughout the season. If their four and five runners can competed with Northeast's five, we'll see a tight race.

Kate Moncavage is the defending district champion and has run well this year. She started the year with two straight wins, and returned to victory lane at the SHIK/PHAC Invitational. She ran 19:12 on this Bloomsburg course this year as well, which is a minute faster than what she ran last year. Gracelyn Laudermilch is the only girl who can challenge her. She has run sub-19 twice this year.

District 4 Class AA Girls - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Baylee Espinosa (Lewisburg); Maizy Aikey (Bloomsburg); Shaela Kruski (Selinsgrove); Victoria Bartholomew (Danville)

Contending Teams: Danville Area, Lewisburg Area, Warrior Run

The Rundown:

Danville and Lewisburg both finished inside the Top-10 at last years state meet. But following that season, both teams went different directions. Danville retained a bulk of its talent, whereas Lewisburg graduated a majority. Still they both find themselves in similar circumstances again, battling for a District title. Lewisburg lacks depth as a result of its turnover, but they've turned to key underclassmen to help carry the team. Danville on the other hand is relying on experienced veterans to carry the torch. Danville is the likely favorite, but we look forward to seeing how this race boils down.

Maizy Aikey is the defending District Champ and we have a feeling she is poised to repeat that feat. She has run a limited invitational schedule this year, but has impressed in each of her showings. She has finished Top-5 in each race and notably ran 18:47 at the NEPA Invitational on this same course. She held off fellow district competition in doing so, including Espinosa, Kruski and Bartholomew. Lewisburg freshman, Espinosa came out firing at PTXC, when she unexpectedly took home the victory. She is a gutsy runner and could challenge Aikey.
