Tapper and Sharp Clash in the Shot Put Circle

On Tuesday, Elizabeth Tapper (Hempfield Area (7)) and Justley Sharp (Homer Center) dueled in the Shot Put circle and churned out US #1 and US #3 marks, respectively.

The two went toe-to-toe at the Hempfield Area Field Meet. Tapper eventually threw an indoor personal best of 46-11 to win Tuesday's meet, while Sharp managed a 45-0 lifetime best in the event.

Liz Tapper discusses her throw.

For Sharp, that throw of 45-0 bests her previous Indoor best by over four feet. She finished sixth at the PTFCA Championship in 2022 but is looking to position herself to compete for the championship this year.

But she may be doing more than that. As mentioned, Tapper and Sharp joined Alexa Brown (Strath Haven) inside the current US Top 5. They are ranked first, third, and fourth, respectively. With those marks, they would have finished last season ranked sixth, 17th and 29th

Justley Sharp talks about her strong

It has been a tremendous start to the year for the Girls' Shot Put competition. In just three weeks, we have been dazzled by what these girls have accomplished. We can look forward to more impressive marks over the next two months.

Tapper also won the Weight Throw on Tuesday, with a throw of 46-5.
