VOTE: PA Athlete of the Week (10/21 - 10/27)

Michael Braun (Freeport Areaand Lillian DiCola (Hatboro Horsham) are this week's PA Athletes of the Week after almost 50,000 votes.

Braun earns the recognition for his effort at the VA XC Showcase. He ran a big personal best of 15:05.50 to secure his spot as the top Pennsylvanian at the meet.

DiCola won on the girl's side thanks to her Suburban One League Championships title. She beat the field by over two minutes, running 178:52.70. 

The championship portion of the season is in full swing with PIAA District championship meets and the PA Independent School Championships. Each week - The PA MileSplit crew will nominate multiple athletes and allow you to vote for the Runner of the Week. This week's poll will close on Thursday (October 31st) at 8:00 pm EST.

The Week's Boys Candidates:

T.J. Zwall (Penn Charter) - Zwall won the PA Independent Schools Championships in 16:03.5. He also paced Penn Charter to the team title. 

Nicholas Mazzeo (Lower Merion) - Mazzeo held off Matt Gosling (Council Rock North) and Rowan Carr (Penncrest) to secure the District 1 3A title in 14:56.90.

Carter Smith (Mifflin County)- Smith beat Issac Opperman (State College) in their latest showdown. Smith took the individual District 6 victory in 15:24.60.

Vinay Raman (Hershey) - Raman defeated returning District 3 3A champion Adam Kingston (Manheim Township), winning a close race between the two by just four seconds. Raman ran 15:20.00.



The Week's Girls Candidates:

Leah Navarro (Dallastown) - Freshman Navarro won the District 3 3A title, running 17:55.50 on the challenge Big Spring course. Her effort was a personal best mark by over twenty seconds. 

Virginia Kraus (Saucon Valley) - Kraus dominated her way to the District 11 2A  title, running 18:01.40. She clocked the fastest time across all three classifications and won her race by just under a minute and thirty seconds. 

Mackenzie Skelly (Penn Charter) - Eighth grader Skelly won the individual title at the PA Independent Schools Championships in 18:07.4. She paced Penn Charter to the team title. 

Cecilia Montagnese (Quaker Valley) - Montagnese took the WPIAL (District 7) 2A crown, running 17:56.20. Her effort was the fastest time run across all three classifications.
