Some late-season battles took on greater intrigue after Brad Kanuch and Rachel Gehret showed the state they are ready to compete this season at their bests. Kanuch is a sprinter who probably has a date in the finals at States against Knowledge Timmons and Montel Williamson. His 10.6 hand-time time was in the prelims, but he won the finals as well. His speed also helped him win the Triple Jump with a leap of 43-04.25. Altoona frosh AJ Alexander posted a 10.9 in the prelims chasing Kanuch. Kanuch also took the 200, going 22.2. Rachel Gehret, the defending AAA state Triple Jump champ, came off a great season of basketball and won four events. She posted a 25.4 for the 200, cleared 5-06 in the High Jump, and went 17-09 and 37-08 to take the Long and Triple jumps. The boys' Javelin performances were stellar as well, as Matt Holsberger, Penn Cambria threw 174-01 for the win, followed closely by Joah Feronti of Johnsonburg at 172-11.
