11/19-Delaware champ bests PA medalists. Burns quick as well at 1st Last Gasp Classic

A special thanks to Ron Lopresti, Fred Rosenfeld, Dan Nelson, Anthony Carr, Mike McMillen, John McShay and Skip Magolon, plus the volunteers from Cardinal O\'Hara, Monsignor Bonner, Archbishop Carroll, and Archbishop Prendergast for making the meet a success in its first year. I\'ll stick with the photos, and you guys run the meet. And to the athletes, parents and fans for their support this first year.

It was small for its first year, but it was fast. With three-time Delaware state champ Anna Brousell of Brandywine on hand, and three medalists from the PIAA state championships and a few more who contended, there was sure to be a quick pace. A small group took over before a half mile, and by two, it had narrowed to just Brousell and Pennridge\'s Sarah Simonetti. Brousell would pull away to win in 18:25, with Simonetti 2nd at 18:40. For comparison, PIAA AAA State Champ Liz Costello of Conestoga had run 18:34 on the course a week before Districts to win the Central League meet. The boys\' Divison 1 race was nearly as deep, as Avon Grove\'s James Burns went 16:01 to win by five seconds over Malvern Prep\'s Brian Duffy, and nine seconds over LaSalle\'s Bob McCullough. In Division 2, Strath Haven\'s Kristen Kildea went 21L17 for the win, and Richard Infantino ran 17:18. In the open race, it was Jeffrey Hayes for the men in 17:36, and Molly Burns in 21:18.
