The action continues to heat up on the girls side, as the midweek DVGTCA meet at Ursinus produced some very good marks. Downingtown East made themselves an early contender in the 4x800 meter relay, running a national leading time of 9:30.34. Notre Dame finished 2nd with a US#2 time of 9:39.13. Garnet Valley was 3rd with a US#4 time of 9:41.05. Like the boys side, the 800 meter run showed its depth, adding six state qualifying performances led by a PA#2 winning time of 2:20.86 from freshman Elise Claffey of Great Valley. The mile did one better, having seven state qualifying performances on Thursday night, led by Foot Locker finalist Tori Gerlach (5:12.22). Each event added five new performances to the top eight.
The sprints also had their share of blazing performances, with Swenson athletes leading the way once again. Swenson have a PA#1 mark in every sprint event except for the 55/60 meter and 200 meter dashes. Thursday night they added a PA#1 in the 55 meter hurdles from Amy Hicks (8.61) and a PA#1 in the 400 meter dash from 60 meter hurdles leader Markeeta Thomas (58.77). Swenson also added a PA#1 in the 4x200 meter relay, running 1:47.74 for the win. The 400 may be the deepest sprint event in the early going, with 11 state qualifying marks.
It was a light week for field events, with no pole vault or long jump this week at Ursinus. Taylor Morgan of Upper Dublin is looking to be the model of consistency in the high jump, winning Thursday night with a mark of 5-4. In three meets this year, she has cleared at least 5-4 each time. Ali Thomas of Phoenixville and Grace Giampetro of Villa Maria Academy cleared 5-2, which is tied for PA#4.
