Demans Team Sports Brookville Invitational - Meet Preview
Ryan Thrush of Brookville Area will have a busy day this weekend. The versatile defending state champ in the AA 400 meters is entered in the 200, 400, and 800 meters at his home invite this weekend. Look for Thrush's unique mix of speed and strength to be on display.
Saint Marys Area's Tom Bojalad started his season off on the right foot last weekend at Altoona and now the senior will look for more wins this weekend at Brookville. Bojalad, who is PA#3 in the discus and PA#6 in the shot put, is favored in both of those events on Saturday. Look for him to try and improve on those marks from the cold in Altoona.
Kane Area's Austin Labesky, a returning state medalist in the javelin, will look to build off his 167-footer, which he threw at Altoona last weekend---his career best.
On the girls' side, watch for Brookville's Brooke Hummel in the sprints. Hummel is the top seed in both the 100 and 200 meters.
Marion Center's Taya Whitfield will be the one to keep an eye on in both the 1600 meters and the 800 meters, but Saint Marys Area's Amanda Foster could give her a good run in the 1600. In the 3200 meters, Saint Marys Area's Michelle Bauer will look to put down a fast early-season time.
The girls' throws will have plenty of talent. Mercer Area's Megan Parker will be the one to beat in the shot put. Coudersport's Adrian Page will look to challenge her there, but she's the top seed in the discus. In the javelin, watch for Kane Area's Trinity Clark as she goes up against Page.
