Seneca Valley Boys, Manheim Twp. Girls Make Big Statements: PIAA Foundation Invitational Recap

Girls' Blue Race - Recap

Maddie McLain of Eastern York didn't expect to see freshman Lauren Trapani in her race, but she wasn't upset about it.

McLain may not have broke the tape, but she was the Blue Race winner in a time of 18:58. Because of team's missing the start in the White Race, about 13 teams, including Warrior Run, competed in the Blue Race. That provided a challenger for McLain in Trapani.

McLain and Trapani raced hard throughout the hills of the Parkview Course at Hershey. In the end, Trapani was able to pull away to finish first in the actual race, but it was McLain who took home the Blue Race winner's medal (Trapani's performance was attributed to the White Race).

Danville Area's Marisa Maffei was second in 19:55 and Sharon freshman Gianna Labbiento was third in 19:58.

The team race went to Villa Maria Academy, the District 10 power and three-time defending AA state champs. Grace Brown paced the way for Villa, running 20:13 for fourth place. Lexi Seifert and Leah Prischak took eighth and ninth, respectively.

Danville Area was second in the much-anticipated battle of the top two teams in AA this season. Maffei's second place finish was tops on the team, but Emma Mikita provided a boost, placing fifth in 20:24, a PR. Northwestern Lehigh had a strong performance to take third, followed closely by fourth place York Suburban.
