PTFCA Indoor State Championship - Girls Track Recap

Individual Events

Thelma Davies of Girard College reigned supreme once again in the sprints. Davies repeated as double champion, winning golds in the 60 meters and 200 meters. Davies broke her own meet record in the 60 meters in a time of 7.37 (.01 better than her previous record), which also matches her PR and is US#3. She came back to win the 200 meters in 23.98 later in the meet. Saucon Valley's Talitha Diggs took second in the 200 in 24.23.

Sydni Townsend of Neumann Goretti won a close one in the 400 meters. The senior made a late move to the front and held on for the victory in 55.17, a new state leader. Her teammate Mykala Perry took second in 55.56.

Northern's Marlee Starliper looked very strong, winning a pair of events. It started in the mile, where she led an aggressive early pace. She gapped the field and never had to look back, blasting a 4:43.49 (US#2) for the win, just off the meet and state record. Gabrielle Wilkinson of Friends' Central took second in 4:52.22. Starliper then returned to win the 3,000 meters in a quick 9:45.92 (US#4), while Abington Heights' Katie Dammer (second place) and North Penn's Ariana Gardizy (third place) also went sub-10.

Esther Seeland of State College Area threw down a great kick in the 800 meters to win to the win in 2:08.71 for a new US#8 and huge PR. She passed Wilkinson late in the race, who took second in 2:09.02.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley took the win in a big PR of 8.48, a US#8 time. Conestoga Valley's Jane Livingston ran great for second in 8.55, a US#9.


Relays

The Strath Haven girls started the day with a win in the 4x800-meter relay. The Millrose Games champs had to hold off a late charge by Neumann Goretti, but Grace Forbes kept Haven in the lead for the win in 9:20.84. N-G was second in 9:21.03.

While Neumann Goretti came up short of the win in the 4x8, they were not to be denied in the sprint relays. The Saints went 1:41.35 to win the 4x200-meter relay. They closed out the meet with a win in the 4x400-meter relay, winning in 3:49.76, just off the meet record. The same girls---Townsend, Perry, Eliza Brooks, and Dasia Wilson---were on both relays.

Friends' Central took home first in the distance medley relay. Wilkinson, who was second in both the mile and 800 meters, returned and got redemption on the anchor leg for the Phoenix in her third event of the day. Wilkinson powered it home to give FCS the win in a time of 12:20.56.
