PIAA States Preview: Boys' Jumps

AA Boys' Triple Jump Preview

Two-time state champion Anthony Milliner has graduated and the door is open for a new state champ in the AA triple jump. And that door is wide open. There's no clear favorite for this coming weekend in the event, which should create some good drama.

The top boy this season in the event has been Marco Maffeo of South Park. He won the WPIAL title last week, but before that jumped a PA-AA#1 of 45-03.75 at the South Fayette Invite. This year is just his first year competing in the sport, but he's been a quick study. Could he take home the title?

Two others has jumps over 45 feet this season: Tyler Thomas of Hanover Area and Clay Engle of Bellwood Antis. Thomas, the District 2 champ, is also in his first season competing and will be a factor for the win. Engle, on the other hand, has experience. He's the top returner from last year's state meet after a fourth place finish and will look to move up to first this season.

Jeremy Clark of Wilmington is the only other returning medalist. He was seventh last season and that experience could come in handy come the state meet. The top seed is Kasar Cameron of Wyalusing Valley Area. The senior put down a massive PR of 44-10 to win the District 4 title and he'll be looking to ride that momentum into states.

Church Farm's Senior Gyamfi, Keystone's Brody Coleman, Palisades' Josh Volak, and Montoursville's Anthony Washington, and Otto-Eldred's Jesse Bennett are among the others in this field with no clear favorite. Watch for a close competition here.
