AAA Girls' 100m Hurdles Preview
Chanel Brissett's graduation doesn't mean the absence of talent in the AAA hurdles. Instead, we've got a field jam-packed with talent at the top and a number of girls who will compete for the crown.
The favorite is Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley. The junior, who won the 60-meter hurdles at indoor states, is the only one in the field to have run sub-14 this season and she's done that three times. Warren has a PR of 13.82 this season and will look to win her first outdoor high hurdles state title.
Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker took second to Warren at the District 1 Championships. She has a season best of 14.05, but went 13.98 to take third in AAA at states last spring. She's the top returner in the field.
The top seed based on districts times is Jayla Ellis of Oakland Catholic. The junior went 14.12 to win the WPIAL title beating out Hempfield Area's Bailey Traczynski. Both girls will have a shot to make a big impact after missing the finals last year. Along with Mount Lebanon's Flynn Begor and North Hills' Amberly Valeriano, District 7 will bring a solid contingent east to Ship. Valeriano was seventh last year.
Conestoga Valley's Jane Livingston missed the first part of the outdoor season, but she's come back strong during the month of May. She went 14.26 to win the District 3 title. She was second at indoor states in the 60-meter hurdles, so she's no stranger to performing well on the big stage. Exeter's Symone Foster and Palmyra's Maliyah Stough are among the other D3 talents with eyes on the final.
Council Rock South's Elke Knecht and Manheim Township's Mackenzie Horn will also be in the mix for a medal come Saturday in the high hurdles.
