Monday December 17th 2007 – January 1st 2008

Well, I took the last two weeks completely OFF and my foot is still hurting!   I haven't gotten on a bike or on an elliptical machine yet, but I am getting the itch to go…  However, one of the pro runners said it would do me some good to just REST.   I'm kind of fighting with that because I think I SHOULD do something…  The doctor said it would be okay for me to get on a bike or an elliptical where there's no impact so I have been cleared to do something.   So I was thinking maybe just getting on the bike or elliptical for me a couple times next week, not to work out like a crazy person, but just to get MOVING and see how it feels.   If my foot hurts while doing anything, I obviously would stop right away because there's no point in hurting it worse than it already is.  A lot of athletes make the mistake of running before they are even healed and I have seen that too many times to do it myself.   HOWEVER, I do understand them better because I don't like not running and am itching to go on a run.  The two weeks off have done me good, but I've had enough.   I'd really like to get started up again so I am going to see the doctor again sometime soon (hopefully next week sometime) to see if there's anything else I can do (maybe physical therapy?).   All I know is that I have to let my foot heal and there's no point in starting back up until it is.  I do have an action plan though when it does heal…Start up slowly and then really work on my foot exercise, the exercises the marathoners always tell me to do.   There is a root to the problem and the only way to get to the solution is to fix what's wrong with the root!  I feel like cortisone would only temporarily fix the symptom and I want to find the solution so it never happens again.   So yeah, antsy, antsy Josi is ready to get going again!!!  But patience is a runner's best friend and worst enemy…Best friend because that is what will actually help, and worst enemy because it's so hard to be patient!!!
