Monday – December 3, 2007
Training:  65 minutes
Day Mileage:  9.5
Week Total:  59.5
Details:  core strength.
School is kicking my ass right now… just being honest.  I have to write tons this semester and read even more!  The University of Berne is really bent on keeping up their status :-)   But hey, that's good for me!  Well…  It will be good for me once I'm finally done!   I am also at the school of Pedagogy (education) as well so I have a master's full load PLUS this education degree!  I'll be happy when this semester is done, because I just keep goin' and goin' and goin', non-stop!   I guess I can't believe how much we have to read every day, I'll read 70 pages and feel good about myself, and the next day have to read another 70…   And these texts are TOUGH!  Some of the students studying linguistics are studying English as a second language so I feel sorry for them sometimes, because I know how long it takes me to read German texts!   So, yeah, I have a lot going on in school, but I am really PUMPED about running.  I don't know why I get into lulls, but I am definitely feeling good about myself and feeling good about my training.

Sunday – December 16, 2007
Training:  20 minute warm up, 6.6km race, NO COOL DOWN
Day Mileage:  7 miles
Week Total:  49.5
Details:  We had to run 5 loops around part of Zürich's main downtown today…And on the 3rd loop, I get this SHOOTING PAIN in my foot!!!!  I jog-limped the last 2 laps and barely made it to the finish line…but I did!   But when I crossed the finish line, the shooting pain in my foot got worse and I couldn't walk on it anymore….HOLY CRAP, every time I tried to step on my forefoot, I almost fell down!   I've never had a pain like this in my life, EVER!  I ended up limping around at dinner and had to get crutches on Monday because I couldn't get an MRI until Friday…I am obviously looking back on it now, but I could have sworn I had broken my foot.   It was so bizarre, because I felt it just a tad the day before and before THAT I had just thought I had a cramp in my foot…  But then during the race it just got waaaaay worse and I literally could only walk on my heel (it looked great, I'm sure!  Me limping all around Zürich!!!)  Anyway, when I went to the doctors on Monday, he said it was most likely a fracture because he was pushing around on a spot and I was SCREAMING OUCH OUCH OUCH…So I was on crutches until I got the MRI.   Well, the MRI results were in on Friday (the 21st) and GOOD NEWS, it's not a fracture…the bone is somehow inflamed???  I am so damn flat-footed that it then puts more pressure on two metatarsals and causes a reaction in the bone (inflammation)….I actually haven't done my research at all because I just figured it was a stress-fracture…but it's not, yaaaaay!   So the doctor says I have to take 2 weeks off and then if it's not better, we might try and shoot it up with cortisone…I'm not a fan of that and I am not just going to numb it up…I may try with meds before I jump to the cortisone deal….First I'm going to take these two weeks OFF, and then I'll decide from there.   I just don't know how I feel about shooting the foot up…  But if it's not better after 3 weeks of rest, I may just do it to give my body a head-start in getting rid of the inflammation.   This is the first "injury" I've had in the past 10 years of running, so I'd say, I'm still pretty lucky.  Aaaanyway, being on crutches for a week wasn't fun at all, but it really made me appreciate all the years of running injury free!   After my foot gets better, I'm going to have to really work on my foot-strength!!!  AKA, I'll really have to get serious about foot-strengthening exercise when I get better!!!!!!!!!!!!
