Jaxson Hoey of Downingtown West said he wanted to exert as little energy as possible in the mile. He had good reason. The mile was Hoey's first of three events on states Sunday. After that, he had an 800 against a handful of fresh competitors, and then he'd close out the meet on the anchor leg of the 4x400 for his Downingtown West team. Hoey conserved energy and still came out on top in that mile, winning in a 4:16.94. Then he followed that up by taking fourth in a stacked 800. He wasn't able to hold off a late charge from Abington's Keion Broadus, but still helped his team take second. His performance proved critical in Downingtown West's dominant team title.
