Boys' Youngstown State HS Meet #2 Recap

Jordan Geist picked up another win and another 70+ throw in the shot put. Geist launched a throw of 71-7.75 to claim the win at YSU, the location where he broke the state record two weeks ago.

But perhaps the biggest shot put story of the meet came from another PA thrower: Evan Blaire of Hickory. Blaire threw a huge PR in the shot on Saturday with a toss of 65-6.25 almost three feet better than his outdoor PR. That's a US#3 for the Auburn recruit.

Hempfield's Alex Murray was third with a throw of 55-0 and Blaire's Hickory teammate Tyler Bishop was fourth with a throw of 53-9.5.

Geist also won the weight throw, with a throw of 75-6, just off his own US#2. Blaire was second with a throw of 60-11.

North Allegheny's Ayden Owens kept up his winning ways on Saturday. The NA junior picked up a pair of wins on the day. Owens won the 60-meter hurdles in 8.09, just off his own PA#1 of 8.08. He then won the 200 meters in 21.76 to move him up to PA#3 in that event. Shenango's Dom Data was second in a PA#9 22.88.

Ryan Thrush of Brookville was fourth in the 200 meters in 23.13, but the versatile senior won the 400 meters in a PA#3 time of 49.56. Time will tell as far as what event(s) Thrush will focus on at the state meet, but he certainly has his options.

Waynesburg Central's Ben Bumgarner picked up the win in the 1600 meters, running 4:26.33. Seneca Valley's Sam Owori was second in a quick 4:27.21.

Gino Mavero edged out Aliquippa's Antwan Brooks in the 60 meters. Both clocked times of 7.18, which is just off each of their season bests.

Penn Hills' Isaiah Bailey took the 800 meter win in a close one, running 1:59.46 for the win.

Upper St. Clair's Harvey Kane won the long jump with a leap of 21-5.75 and finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-10.
