Boys' Mile - Saturday, 5:12 P.M.
Bishop Shanahan's Josh Hoey has been on a tear this season. The nation found that much out when he upset DJ Principe at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston two weeks ago. Hoey ran 4:09 for the win that shocked the broadcasters and most track fans. Principe will race the pros at Millrose, but Hoey will look for the win against his prep peers Saturday evening in the loaded mile.
His best competition could come from a pair of brothers from PA. Carlisle's Noah Affolder earned a spot in the Millrose field and he'll look to take down Hoey. Last year, Noah was steps away from a Millrose win in this race last year, but a premature celebration cost him the win. He has an indoor PR of 4:09 and he'll look to run "1,609 meters and not 1,607 meters" this year, as he told PennLive's Timothy Johnson.
Sam Affolder of Carlisle is also in the race after winning the Hispanic Games and automatically qualifying. He's just a sophomore, but the younger brother of Noah has proved that he can hang with the upperclassmen.
Winchester Thurston's Tristan Forsythe rounds out the list of PA runners in the race. Forsythe took second to Hoey at the AT&T Hall of Fame Invitational in December. He's raced just once since then, but he's shown that he's taken his game to a new level after that 4:20 mile at the Armory.
Brodey Hasty from Tennesee, Dalton Hengst from Maryland, and Elliott Gindi from New Jersey make up a very talented field that will look to challenge the favorites from Pennsylvania.
