Girls' NBNI Day 2 Recap

It's another state record for North Penn.

For a second straight year, the North Penn girls 4x800 broke the state record in the event at New Balance Nationals Indoor. The Maidens clocked a time of 9:03.35 to break its own existing record of 9:05.98, which it set last year at NBNI.

The team of Ariana Gardizy, Jenna Webb, Uche Nwogwugwu, and Mikaela Vlasic is 75% the same as a year ago. Webb stepped in to fill the void left by Phoebe Clowser, who graduated. Gardizy led off and split 2:19.18 and gave the baton to Webb, who ran a time of 2:18.58. Nwogwugwu, who wasn't apart of North Penn's state championship relay, was the third leg and split 2:14.28. Vlasic brought it home on the anchor leg, splitting a 2:11.31 as North Penn took second place to Ridge from New Jersey.

Cheltenham's Chanel Brissett continued to assert her dominance in the 60 meter hurdles. The senior blasted a 8.16 to qualify through to the semifinals. That was the fastest qualifying time and just .02 off her own state record, which she set at the indoor state meet two weeks ago. California's Tara Davis also clocked a 8.16 in the prelims.

Three others from PA will be headed to the semis in the 60 hurdles. Susquehanna Township's Yasmin Brooks ran 8.44 to finish as the fourth fastest qualifier. Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker (19th in 8.66) and Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren (24th in 8.75) are also through. The semis will go off at 11 A.M. Sunday with the finals slated to go off at 1:41 P.M.

Brissett then returned for the 4x200 meter relay prelims. The team of Brissett, Brielle Lewis, Alexis Crosby and Bria Barnes crept dangerously close to the PA state record. The Panthers ran 1:38.70, just .06 off the state record set in 2015 by Cheltenham. The finals are Sunday at 12:55 P.M. North Penn ran 1:41.56 in the prelims to place tenth overall, just missing the finals.

Girard College's Thelma Davies advanced safely to the semifinals of the 60 meters. She ran the 12th fastest time of the qualifiers with a time of 7.57. She'll look to improve on her PA state record of 7.37 from last year, which was also a national freshman class record. The semis go off at 11:20 A.M. on Sunday.

Perkiomen Valley placed tenth in the 4x1 mile relay. The team of Michele Daniels, Julia Dorley, Jocelyn Rotay, and Annie Glodek clocked a time of 21:06.81.

In the long jump, Athens Area's Breana Gambrell was the top PA girl in the field. Gambrell jumped 18-7 to take 13th overall. Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker jumped 17-10.75 for 24th place and Bentworth's Brenna Cavanaugh was 25th, jumping 17-9.5.
