Morris Tops Talented PV Field: Top 500 Boys Pole Vault Returners

The battle for the top spot in boys pole vault in Pennsylvania, much like the girls, will be fierce. A number of boys have already cleared 16 feet or better indoors and many will push that barrier this spring.

The top returner is Payton Morris of East Pennsboro. Morris was sixth at states last year after an off day, but he did jump 15-07 last year. Indoors, he took his vaulting to the next level. He won at the Millrose Games and took an indoor state title, jumping 16 or better on a number of occasions. Now he'll look to add outdoor gold to his resume.

But Morris will get a good challenge for the AAA state crown from West Chester Rustin's Charles Dever. He was third at outdoor states last year and then fourth at indoor states this winter. Dever then jumped a huge PR of 16-05.25, the third best vault in state history, to take sixth at indoor nationals. Dever and Morris will be the top boys to watch in AAA.
