Boys' 4x200m Relay Preview
Central Dauphin East will look to cap off its incredible season with a 4x200 title on Sunday. CD East has been the class of the 4x2 all season long, running the state's two fastest times -- a 1:29.02 at Kevin Dare and then a 1:28.52 for second at the Millrose Games. That state-leading time is also a US#7.
East has no shortage of sprint talent and some strong chemistry. The state meet record is surely in danger at 1:28.49, a time that East is just .03 off.
The only other squad with a sub-1:30 effort in the field is the Haverford School. They also ran at Millrose, where they took fourth. Haverford School ran its season best of 1:29.66 at Ocean Breeze. With a strong effort, this squad will look to keep pace with the favorites.
Coatesville ran a 1:31.89 on a flat track, an impressive performance that should put the Raiders near the front on Sunday afternoon. Girard College, similarly, dropped a flat track 1:31.94 at the TFCAofGP Meet of Champs that will put them in contention. Norristown was impressive at the New Balance Games, where it won in a 1:30.94. Look for those teams to capitalize if the favorites slip up.
Then a good amount of teams come in with best times in the 1:31 range: Chambersburg, West Chester Henderson, Lower Merion, Upper Darby, and Harry S. Truman. State College Area went 1:33 on a flat track and that will translate well over to a banked track.
The field will likely be chasing CD East, but of course, there will always be chaos in the 4x2. This is going to be a fun, and perhaps record-setting relay to watch for.
