AAA Boys' High Jump Preview
Like the AA boys, the AAA boys high jump is incredibly wide open with a number of this season's breakthrough performers ready to compete for the top spot in the state.
The state leader heading into states is State College's Conrad Moore. He won the District 6 title., but a week prior, he cleared a massive PR of 6-9 to win the Mid-Penn title. He'll be in the mix for the win. The top seed is Nate Good of Warwick, who leapt a big 6-8 to win the District 3 crown, four inches better than his previous best. Suddenly he's a major factor and he'll return to Ship with a shot at the win.
Speaking of big PRs, Ethan Michaels of Boyertown jumped 6-7, a five inch PR, to win the District 1 crown. Along with the Coatesville trio of Ousman Kamara, Donovan Brickus, and Donovan Hart, D1 will have a strong contingent at Ship. Kamara jumped 6-8 earlier this season (he's also jumped 6-7 twice and 6-6 twice). Then there's Perkiomen Valley's Cole Peterlin, who was fourth in the district, but was the indoor state champ this past winter. He'll aim for a similar performance to the one we saw at Penn State. His season best is 6-6.
WPIAL champ Sami Taoufik of Butler and District 3 runner-up Juan Mato-Segura of Reading have both jumped 6-7 on the season. Expect both to be in the mix for the win. Two others in the field have jumped 6-6 this season: Harris Wittmeyer (Berks Catholic) and Joe Cardina (Conestoga Valley).
All in all, this one will be a toss-up. We've seen some big PRs this season and the one who channels that same effort on states day could be crowned champion.
