PIAA States Preview: Boys' Sprints/Hurdles

AAA Boys' 400m Preview

With Pennridge's Andersen Dimon battling an injury and not competing in any individual events, the AAA 400 meters is looking a bit more wide open.

Central Dauphin East's Stephon Brown has emerged as the state's quarter miler in that time, dropping a pair of sub-48 times, including a state-leading 47.47. He went 47.92 to win at District 3 and is the top seed heading into the state meet. He'll be the one to beat, but looking to give him a run is James Jaisingh of Cumberland Valley. The sophomore ran a PR of 48.11 to take second to Brown in D3 and will be a factor at the state meet.

Salim Epps of Saint Joseph's Prep will be among the contenders. He went 48.38 to take the District 12 title last week and seems primed for a big run at states. Greater Latrobe's Zakharee Williams was a very close second at WPIAL, running 48.74. The senior will look to go out on a high note at the state meet.

Some talented sophomores will be worth keeping an eye on in an field that looks relatively wide open as far as the podium is concerned. District 1 champ Caleb Ryu of Hatboro-Horsham, Gettysburg's Noah Sanders, Cumberland Valley's David Williams, and Bonner-Prendie's Enoobong Eka are some strong quarter milers from the class of 2021.
