PIAA States Preview: Boys' Sprints/Hurdles

AA Boys' 100m Hurdles Preview

Waynesburg Central's Daniel Layton enters the state meet as the top seed and top-ranked boy in the high hurdles field for AA. He went 14.46, the top AA time in the state at Baldwin and then won the WPIAL title with a 14.58 last week. After an eighth place finish a year ago, he'll be primed to go after the state title on Saturday.

Palmerton Area's Jordan Nelson will also have his sights set on that top spot. The junior ran 14.68 to win the District 11 title, a sizable PR, and he's running well at the right time. Littlestown's Derek Herr comes in as the third seed. He ran a PR of 14.73 to win the District 3 crown. He was seventh a year ago and has some good experience that could pay off at states.

Looking for a sleeper in the field? How about Ronald Holmes of Neumann Goretti. The junior fell in the District 12 final, but squeaked into states as the 27th seed out of 27. he is the field's top returner from last year, where he placed fourth. Don't let the seed fool you.

Among the other strong hurdlers in this field are Dillon Olson of Brookville Area, Kameron Schreffler of Lewisburg Area, and Payton Rohrbaugh of Bermudian Springs.
