Loudoun Valley, Parks Among Big Names: PTXC 11 Preview

PTXC 11 Girls' Blue Race - Race Preview

  • Race Time: 10:50 A.M.
  • Virtual Meet
  • 2018 Individual Winner: Caroline Mehlhorn (Montgomery - NJ) - 19:01
  • 2018 Team Winner: Loudoun Valley (VA) - 93 points

Last year, Montgomery (NJ) freshman Caroline Mehlhorn made her high school debut at PTXC 10. The ninth grader pulled from a strong field and turned the Blue Race into a runaway, capturing the win by 26 seconds over second place. Melhourn is once again entered in the Blue Race. Now a sophomore, she has to be considered the one to beat after a freshman campaign that saw her place fifth at New Jersey's Meet of Champions.

Mehlhorn's teammate Elizabeth Henderson should also be a factor. The fellow sophomore was fifth in the Blue Race last year. The only other girls with a sub-19 to her name in the field is Central Bucks East's Mckenna Brophy. The senior was 12th in the Gold Race last year. Now in the Gold Race, she'll look to challenge Mehlhorn and Henderson for the win.

Bishop McDevitt's Katelyn Deitrick, fresh off a win in at the Diocesan Invitational, will look to mix it up near the front. She'll be an interesting District 3 Class AA runner to watch this season. Speaking of which, Conrad Weiser's Syndey Werner had a strong career opener. The freshman was fifth at Northampton last week and should be a factor again this weekend.

Warwick's Anna Martin, Montgomery's Hannah Hogan, Lake Lehman's Abby Paczewski and Dock Mennonite's Lauren Birch are among the other girls that will be worth keeping an eye on in this race

On the team side, Loudoun Valley's B squad was able to complete a full meet sweep last year. Arguably one of the nation's deepest squads on the boys side, proved that they deserve to be in the that same conversation on the girls' side. LV should be considered a factor in this race again this fall.

Surely, Montgomery with its front-running will be a team that should make a run for the title. Mehlhorn and Henderson could make it a 1-2 finish up top. Lewisburg Area, Daniel Boone, and Central Bucks East will also be in the conversation for high finishes.
