Ephrata's Tyler Shue is preparing for what should be a big season for the senior Penn State signee. Shue ran to the indoor state crown in 1:54.28 after falling in the mile earlier in the meet. It was the first state crown of Shue's career. He'd follow that up with a massive effort at the outdoor state meet to win in a PR of 1:51.55. Then a few weeks later, he'd add a national title, dropping a 1:50.39 to win at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
We could be watching another special season in the boys 800, and Shue will likely be leading the charge.
Jonah Hoey is another strong half miler to watch for this winter. Hoey won't be back at Bishop Shanahan this season; instead he's finishing up high school at an online school. While we won't see him at the indoor state meet, Hoey will still be competing in the winter and spring, just unattached. He went 1:56.33 for fourth at indoor states last year, but went 1:51.12 outdoors. Expect him to drop some quick times this indoor season.
