AAA Girls 200m Preview
The 200 meters will be a good matchup between some of the states top shorter sprinters and some of the best longer sprinters.
Laila Campbell of Spring Grove is the top seed after she clocked a wind-legal 24.11 to win the District 3 title, the last of her three wins on the day. She's also the top seed in the 100, and is forgoing the 400 to go after titles in the 100 and 200. The freshman looks like the one to beat after that big day in D3.
But District 1 champion Sanaa Hebron, the top seed in the 400, will be looking to claim this win. Hebron went 24.62 on tired legs to win the SOL Patriot Division title a few weeks ago and then went 24.85 for the District 1 top spot. She was just ahead of Cheltenham's Eyota Bey for that 200 win. Bey will be hungry for a win coming into Saturday and she will certainly be a factor in this timed final. Hebron and Campbell raced the 200 at the midseason Roddick Invite, where Hebron came from behind to claim the win.
Avon Grove's Molly O'Connor was third in District 1 and is running great coming into the state meet. She'll be in the mix as well. District 2 champion Alondra Church of Dallas has emerged as a top sprint threat in her senior year. She went 25.25 to win at D2 and could make it interesting in that top section.
WPIAL's top 200 meter girls -- Amy Allen of South Fayette and Abbie Huey of Indiana Area -- are coming off strong races in District 7 last week. Downingtown West's Maya Tucker and Carlisle's Ella Boback will be medal contenders in what should be an absolute dogfight to get on the medal stand towards the end of the day at Shippensburg.
