AAA Girls 100m Hurdles Preview
Kayli Williams of Pennsbury had a big weekend at the District 1 Championships and the senior will look to ride that momentum into the state meet. Williams dropped the two fastest 100m hurdle times of the season at Coatesville, running 14.53 in the prelims and then a PA#1 14.49 in the district final to pick up the win. She's been getting better and better as the season has gone on and she will shoot for her first state title on Saturday.
Her best challenge will come from Aniyah Anderson of Hickory, who has spent a good deal of the season at the PA#1 spot. Anderson has dipped under 15 seconds on five different occasions and holds a season best of 14.77. She's been consistently solid in the high hurdles and it should be a good matchup between eastern PA's best (Williams) and western PA's best (Anderson).
District 1 has a trio of girls after Williams that finished very tight at the district meet. Strath Haven's Teghan Sydnor, Mount Saint Joseph's Annie Lemelin, and Central Bucks East's Kylie Emmens finished within .02 of each other on Friday. Sydnor and Emmens have season bests of 14.78, while Lemelin ran a best of 14.87. All three should be right in the mix for a high finish, and possibly the win in the sometimes-unpredictable high hurdles.
District 5 champion Haley Stickle of Somerset and Pennridge's Emma Schlotter are the only other two girls in this field that have run sub-15 this season. Both will be shooting for high spots on the podium. Ambridge's Bethany Naughton, Carlisle's Alyssa Dyson, and Easton's Autumn Ford are a trio of district champions that are also coming into the weekend with a lot of momentum.
