AAA Girls 300m Hurdles Preview
Annie Lemelin of Mount Saint Joseph Academy ran herself to the PA No. 1 spot on Friday at the District 1 Championships, clocking a state-leading 44.12 in the 300 meter hurdles. Now, the senior is in the driver's seat to chase her first state title.
Lemelin dropped a half second PR at Coatesville for the district title, and some of her best competition will come from the girls she faced off against at the District 1 meet. The top four seeds hail from D1. A pair of the state's top intermediate hurdlers, Sanaa Hebron (PA#2) and Amy Allen (PA#4) will chase titles in other events.
Chester's Jiya Clayton was second to Lemelin in District 1. She holds a season best of 44.76 and the veteran athlete will aim to give Lemelin a run for her money up front. Pennridge's Victoria Angelo, just a freshman, was third in D1 and comes in as a third seed with a PR of 45.00 from the district meet. CB East's Ella Derstine will also be a factor, after taking fourth in D1 in 45.38, also a season best.
Butler's Emma Lehman will be one to watch. She captured the WPIAL title last week and has a season best of 45.09 that should put her right in the mix for a high finish. District 3 champion Madi Herb of Wilson, Teghan Sydnor of Strath Haven, and Aniyah Anderson of Hickory are the others that will make up the fastest section of the 300m hurdles on Saturday.
