AA Girls 4x400m Relay Preview
Championship season always brings out the fast 4x4s and that's what we saw this past week for the top AA 4x4s in PA. A number of teams emerged at district meets as state title contenders in the 4x400-meter relay after some quick times.
Wilmington enters as the top seed, after putting down a AA-leading 4:03.38 to take the District 10 crown. But further east at the District 4 meet, Lewisburg Area also dropped a 4:03 time, just a little slower than Wilmington when it comes to the tenths -- a 4:03.67. Hughesville wasn't far off Lewisburg at D4, running 4:05.38 for second. Boiling Springs went 4:05.71 for the District 3 crown.
Then you have to factor in WPIAL champions Quaker Valley (4:06.99) and District 3 runners-up Trinity (4:07.00). All these teams enter the state meet on the heels of season best times and there won't be much of a margin for error.
A team you can't count out is Saint Basil Academy, which owns the fifth fastest time in AA. Basil went 4:13.10 to win the District 1 title handily, but owns a season best of 4:06.97 from the AACA Championships. This squad is capable of a fast time at states as well.
4x4s always seem to come down to "who has the most left?" And without a clear-cut top seed for the first time in a while in AA, this is set up to be a thrilling meet closer.
