Meet Preview: District 1 Championships

District 1 Class A Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 5

Individuals To Watch: Nathaniel Barnett (Jenkintown); Trevor Godshall (Dock); Oliver Michell (Jenkintown); Isaac Mixon (Jenkintown); Jesse Patterson (Jenkintown); Aidan Quattrocchi (Bristol)

Contending Teams: Bristol; Dock Mennonite Academy; Jenkintown

The Skinny: Despite losing plenty of firepower from last year's state championship squad, the Jenkintown boys have retooled in a big way and will be the big favorites to take the team title on Friday in D1. The Drakes will look to snag the one and only state spot for teams, with Dock and Bristol likely racing for second. Michell will be the individual favorite. He's cruised to four wins this season, and doesn't look like he can be stopped in D1-A. Many of his Drakes teammates shouldn't be too far behind, battling it out with Quattrocchi and Godshall for spots in the top five.

District 1 Class AA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 5

Individuals To Watch: Jack Becker (Lower Moreland); Ciaran Chambers (Holy Ghost Prep); James Corbett (Holy Ghost Prep); Noah Kim (Lower Moreland); Joseph Smith (Holy Ghost Prep); Shea Woods (Lower Moreland)

Contending Teams: Bishop ShanahanHoly Ghost Preparatory; Lower Moreland

The Skinny: Corbett has enjoyed a great season, and he'll look to keep it rolling on Friday and win a district title. Corbett went sub-16 this season and has won a pair of races. He's a good bet to take the top spot, while his teammate Chambers and LM's Woods will aim to challenge him.

The team race will be very close with just one state spot on the line. Lower Moreland and Holy Ghost are the top threats to grab that lone ticket to Hershey. Holy Ghost edged out LM 155-168 at the Souderton Twilight Invite earlier this month. LM will aim to flip the script on Friday and get that last spot. Both teams have a good mix of lowsticks and depth. Shanahan is a team that can get in the mix, too.

District 1 Class AAA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 6
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 30

Individuals To Watch: Aryan Abbaraju (Unionville); Alex Bullard (Lower Merion); Thomas Damiani (Owen J. Roberts); Brian DiCola (Hatboro Horsham); Ethan Fingerhut (Haverford); Brendan Flynn (Downingtown East); Sarem Kahn (Lower Merion); Vaughn Lackman (Methacton); Bryan Landsberg (Methacton); Patrick Lawson (Haverford); Caiden Leen (Downingtown East); Eric Mass (CB West); Andrew McGonigle (Owen J. Roberts); Ryan Tarapchak (Neshaminy)

Contending Teams: Avon GroveCentral Bucks West; Downingtown East; Haverford Township; Lower Merion; Owen J. Roberts; Methacton; North Penn

The Skinny: The individual race in D1-AAA may be one of the most wide open that this race has seen in quite a while. There are a ton of talented boys capable of capturing the title here. Many of the contenders met at Paul Short where PAC champ McGonigle ran the fastest time of D1 boys with a 15:24. SOL American champ DiCola, SOL National champ Tarapchak, Central League champ Fingerhut and Ches-Mont champ Flynn are all running well at the right time and should put themselves right in the mix. it is going to be a battle up front for sure.

The team battle will be close with about five teams having a legitimate shot at taking the top spot. Lower Merion was the top District 1 team at Paul Short, but Ches-Mont champs Downingtown East was the top D1 team at Foundation. SOL Champs Central Bucks West has been solid all season long, and should make a play for the top spot with D-East and Lower Merion. PAC Champs Owen J. Roberts weren't too far off the top PA teams at Paul Short, and can also contend for the win. Haverford, Methacton, and North Penn will also be battling it out for spots in the top six and a berth
