Girls 200m Preview
The 60 meter dash will bring some early fireworks, but the 200 meters should bring some great action later in the meet. Friends' Central's Avery Lewis and Spring Grove's Laila Campbell -- the two top seeds in the 60m -- will return, and so will 400 meter top seed Sanaa Hebron of Neshaminy.
Lewis comes in as the top seed. She went 24.18 on Lehigh's track at the Carnival a few weeks ago and that time (despite being on a flat track) is a PA#1 clocking. She out-dueled Campbell in that Carnival race, who ran a 24.57 to take second. Getting on the banks of Penn State could change things, but for now Lewis is the favorite, though Campbell (the reigning outdoor 200m state champion) will surely be hungry for a rematch.
Hebron, of course, can't be counted out. She just ran an indoor PR of 24.49 at the MVP Vibe Fest in Chicago, and enters the weekend in a good spot to matchup with Lewis and Campbell. Hebron has a lot of big race experience this season, and that should benefit her quite a bit.
With talent like this in the field, it's worth mentioning that Thelma Davies' state (and meet) record is 23.51. Like the 60m, it'll take a big race, but it's not out of the question that it could go down.
Msgr. Bonner & Abp. Prendergast's Taylor Johnson is in the midst of a great season. After running some quick flat track times, the senior popped a sub-25 time of 24.91 at Ocean Breeze last week. Johnson should be pushed to a fast time and high finish in this field.
TSTCA champion Dani Prunzik of Upper Saint Clair, Harriton's Milan Ramey, and the South Fayette duo of Olivia Renk and Melana Schumaker are among the other girls that should make some noise from the earlier heats.
