Run on the same day on the same course, the 10/29 PIAA District 5 Championships belonged to the Chestnut Ridge boys and Bedford girls. All D5 schools are AA. Vernon Horne led Chestnut Ridge with five in the top ten with his 17:56... while fellow senior Ashley Wilson of Bedford took top honors at 20:08 as four of her teammates crossed the line in the top six.
It was a State College sweeps for the boys and girls at the 10/29 PIAA District 6 Championships in the AAA races. Matt Kisenwether led the boys with a 2nd place 16:46 as State College took half the top ten spots. Altoona's Zach Epple won the race in 16:30. For the girls, Katherine Ward's solo 19:00 helped lead her team to start a dominating performance with six of the top 12 spots. In AA, Central Cambria sophomore Carly Seymour posted the fastest time of the day, an 18:04, to lead her team to the title. Penns Valley's boys won a two-point race over Central Cambria behind the 4th place 17:16 of Nathan Brown. Shane Simmons led Central Cambria with a 2nd place 16:52. Westmont Hilltop junior Travis Dean was District champ with his 16:17.
