US#2 UNIONVILLE GIRLS
The Unionville girls proved that their victory over Fayetteville-Manlius was not just a one time deal. The quality and magnitude of their performance at McQuaid sent shockwaves around the country. On a windy Saturday afternoon in New York, Unionville looked to live up to their US#2 team rankings and they did just that. Led by a 3rd place finish from Courtney Smith and a 7th place finish from Olivia Young, Unionville earned their 2nd victory of the season over the 7 time defending national champions in the Eastern States Race by a score of 89-92. Pennsbury also earned a top five finish in the race, finishing 4th with 159 points led by a 13th place finish by Olivia Sargent.
In other PA action, Holy Ghost Prep finished 7th in the Varsity A race with a score of 218 points led by a 16th place finish from Christian Kardish. Abington finished 9th in the Varsity C race with 295 points led by a Jake Ruth's 36th place finish. Unionville boys were 9th in the Varsity F race with Colin McDonald finishing 11th to lead his squad.
The lone winners on the boys side from PA were Conestoga, who earned an impressive victory in the Varsity G race. Led by a 2-3 finish from Andrew Marston (12:58) and Gunnar Sjoreen (13:06), Conestoga scored 51 points, had a 1-5 spread of 38 seconds, and were a whopping 75 points better than the runner up team.
