AA Girls' 100m Preview
Girard College's Thelma Davies is in a league of her own in Pennsylvania. The junior will go for her third straight 100 meter state title in AA. Davies' 11.58 remains the PIAA meet record. Davies smoked an 11.60 in the prelims of the District 1 Championships, showing her fitness is at a great level to chase that record and another state title.
Hoping to challenge Davies is Breana Gambrell of Athens Area. While her jumping abilities have been long documented, we can't forget about Gambrell's raw speed. She was second to Davies last year, and this spring she's gotten even faster. She dropped an F.A.T. 11.83 in a dual meet and rolled to the District 4 title.
Plenty of other talent will be worth watching for. Maddie Raymond of South Park has been impressive in her freshman season. She went 12.18 to win the WPIAL title and will look for a high finish in her first state meet.
Returning from last year's final in addition to Davies and Gambrell are District 12 champ Eliza Brooks of Neumann Goretti, District 1 runner-up Alexandra Brizzi of Calvary Christian, and Frazier's Skye Eicher. Among the other girls that have a good shot at the final include District 10 champ TerryLee Talasky of Eisenhower, District 6 champ Zoe Roush of Forest Hills, and District 3 champ Brooke Lawyer of Delone Catholic.
