AAA Girls' 100m Preview
Looking for a wide open race at Shippensburg? Look no further than the AAA girls' 100 meters, which features no shortage of star power, but no clear-cut favorite.
The defending champion -- Hunter Robinson -- is focusing on other events at states, but her sister Hayden Robinson of Avonworth/Northgate enters as the top seed, looking to keep the 100 meter crown in the family for another year. The junior popped a big PR of 11.92 to win the WPIAL title, and she'll try and convert that into state gold. Casey Burton of North Allegheny was second to Robinson at WPIALs. She was fourth as a freshman and should factor into the title conversation this year.
District 1 will bring in plenty of talent. Jonae Cook of Norristown ran 11.89 in the semis at District 1 (in the pouring rain) and then went 12.08 in the final for the win. Cook has finals experience (she was eighth) last year and she'll definitely be a factor. Abington's Rorie Spencer, Conestoga's Grace Lanouette, Harry S. Truman's Jaleezia Gibson, and Cheltenham's Ni Asia Williams will also be in the mix. Lanouette was second at states to Hunter Robinson last year.
Another loaded region is District 3, which will bring in three of the top seven seeds. Dallastown's Riyana Owens was the D3 champ, but Warwick teammates Lily Palacio-Lewis and Leah Graybill weren't far behind. All three have a good chance at high finishes comes Saturday.
District 12 champion Lauryn James of Central will be in the mix, and so will Obama Academy's Raven Haston, who made the final two years ago. As always, a good start will be absolutely crucial in this race. Just making the final on Saturday means a legitimate shot at the state title. It's going to be close.
