Breaking Down The Crazy Relay Situation in PA

Girls 4x200m Relay

PA State Rankings: 4x200m

The State Favorites: Coatesville; Penn Wood; Warwick

Top Medal Contenders: Central Bucks East; Cheltenham; Harry S. Truman; Neumann Goretti; North Penn; Norristown; Upper Saint Clair

Dark Horses: Downingtown West; George School; Paul Robeson; Penn Hills; Strath Haven

Sizing It Up: Coatesville, which will race at the Millrose Games this weekend, has the PA#1 time at 1:42.34 from Stanner, is a solid veteran squad that could move up from its third place states finish a year ago into the top spot. But meanwhile, Warwick through down a very impressive flat-track 1:43.56 at F&M a few weeks ago. By PTFCA conversions, that is the fastest time in the state. They are a deep sprint team capable of competing with a good C'Ville relay. The teams look very evenly matched as the season starts to take shape.

Penn Wood, which was ninth last year just out of the medals, has emerged this season and could be a factor. The defending state champs from Neumann Goretti can't be overlooked. They dropped a 1:44 at the Armory a few weeks ago and should be in the mix again. Cheltenham is another team (currently PA#7) that is historically great in this event and has a solid sprint crew that could challenge for another title.

Norristown, North Penn, and Truman could all make noise here and could make some moves in the always-chaotic event.
